About The Uluwatu Collection

Something of divine origin...

To the modern surfing world, there aren’t many waves more iconic to Indonesia than Uluwatu. It was first ‘discovered’ in 1971 by legendary filmmaker, Alby Falzon and surfer Wayne Lynch, whilst filming ‘Morning of The Earth’ - an instant classic in the surfing world. However, to the ancient Balinese, this hidden gem along the southwestern tip of the island has held spiritual significance since the 11th century AD.

The famous Pura Luhur is a traditional Balinese Temple that sits 70-meters above the pristine waves of Uluwatu, and is one of the six spiritual pillars of Bali. “Luhur” meaning ‘something of divine origin’ was strategically placed at the top of Pecatu Hill, along the Bukit Peninsula, to serve as a direct link between heaven and Earth.

Now, centuries later, the Pura still stands amongst the beautiful white cliffs and rolling waves of Uluwatu, and is frequented daily by locals and foreigners alike, hoping to catch a glimpse of one of the islands most spectacular sunsets.

The physical attributes and colors of The Uluwatu Collection were inspired by the natural beauty of this iconic location, combining a unique blend of both strength and elegance. The three colors represent the deep blue of the Indian Ocean, the soft sand of the southern beaches, and the pastel greens of the shallow, coral reef. The hand-carved waves at the bottom of the strap represent the rolling sets of perfect surf that wrap the southern coastline, and just above them, you’ll find the exact geo-coordinates of Pura Luhur etched into the brass, adjustable slide. On the reverse side of the slide, you’ll then find your very own unique style number that sets your limited edition strap apart from the rest!
Like all asri products, every detail is handmade by local artists and craftsmen, from the comfort of their own homes, and gives back to the local community with every sale. With this new collection, we are very happy to announce asri’s newest partnership with Chloe House - a local children's home that is currently supporting 15 orphaned children from around Indonesia. 10% of every Uluwatu strap sold will be directly given to the orphanage to help provide education and opportunities for these children who need our help. We are very proud to be working with such an incredible organization, and invite you to join us in making a difference in the lives of these young people.

We want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of our hearts for joining the asri family, and truly hope that together, we can help others to find their asri.
